Our Mission
To build affordable, durable, insulated four-season campers that provide outdoor enthusiasts with a reliable base camp anywhere adventure takes them.
Freedom Campers started with a simple problem.
Co-founder Josh Good went looking for a small, hard-sided camper he could actually afford for an annual trip to Ohio. Something to keep him warm and dry without the luxury RV price tag or a list of extras he didn't need. He couldn't find anything under $10,000.
So he and Adam Janney, his old college baseball teammate, decided to build one themselves.
That "why doesn't this exist?" moment became the Freedom Camper: a tough, practical, no-nonsense camper that mounts to your truck bed or trailer and does exactly what you need it to do. Nothing more, nothing you'll never use.
It isn't a luxury RV, and that's the whole point. It's affordable, light enough to go where bigger campers can't, and built to withstand whatever the outdoors throws at it.
We launched in February 2024, originally under the name Tusca Outdoors, and like anyone with a new idea, we weren't sure how people would react. Then our first design drew national attention at its debut, mostly for doing less instead of more. That's when we knew we were onto something.
Today, there are nearly 1,000 rigs on the road and a growing community building them out their own way. #RigItYourWay isn't a tagline we came up with. It's how our customers actually use these things.
If you knew us as Tusca, you know what we're about. Same campers, same mission, new name: warm, dry, reliable base camps for people who want the freedom to go anywhere.
Tusca Outdoors is now Freedom Campers! The original Tusca team (including our founders!) are still here. That means the same people, the same passion, and the same trusted quality are staying right where they belong.
Our flagship camper, the Tusca HitchHiker, is now known as the Freedom Camper under the Freedom Campers brand.
Depending on your use, we have a page dedicated to campers in a truck bed, as well as the Freedom Camper used with a trailer.
A new name for the same all-season, go-anywhere spirit.
